Medieval trade routes

Trade
• Roman Empire had provinces so they didn't need city's
• In the tenth century cities became big which made trading harder
The Silk Road
• The Silk Road was very safe to go on
• It went from Europe to Asia
• The Silk Road is still here today

1. Using evidence from the painting describe two ways goods were transported
One could be that it was useful to take food and heavy stuff from one place to another. 2 they will be able to take inventions into other countries.

2. What dangers do you think travels found  along  the Silk Road
Going on the boat might have been the dangerous part.

New trades routes
• Long distance voyages were very dangerous but where helped by new technology

The Mariner's Astrolabe was used to determine the latitude of a ship at sea by measuring the noon altitude of the Sun or the meridian altitude of a star of known declination. This helped them to fine there way to Asia or North Africa where they didn't really know where to go.

Boat rudders may be either outboard or inboard. Outboard rudders are hung on the stern or transom. Inboard rudders are hung from a keel or skeg and are thus fully submerged beneath the hull, connected to the steering mechanism by a rudder post which comes up through the hull to deck level, often into a cockpit. This helped them because it was attached to a part of the steering mechanism so it was important.
